Tools > Search: "Conditions" box has gone white

Post by KLE-France »

HI all,

Quick question: The "Conditions" box in the search function (true for the Smart Albums feature as well), which was formerly grey, has gone white:
white search box.jpg
white search box.jpg (119.41 KiB) Viewed 205 times
As you can see, this makes the employed conditions very difficult to read.

I did go through my settings to see if I changed something that may cause this, but I didn't find anything obvious.

Did I infinite-monkeys something to change it to this color, or is this possibly a bug?

Thanks in advance!

The basics: Windows 10 home, XnView MP 1.9.8 64-bit, but I had noticed this in the preceding version as well.

It's been this way for a while; the program has been restarted and the computer rebooted many times.

It could be something with your display settings or your color or theme settings in Windows.

Or it could be you’ve monkeyed with the theme settings in the app.

Start with a fresh install/config of the app and see if that rectifies your colors.

Do you use a custom theme?

So, I just spent time experimenting with the different themes (Tools > Settings > General), and this does appear to be an issue with the "Custom" theme; all the other themes have a Conditions box color coherent with the theme's colors.

When one chooses the Custom theme, there is indeed a dialog box that opens, but I have never done anything other with that box than to click on "OK", both in the past when I first chose it, and now when I was testing.

I have also done no modifications with the computer itself, its display setting or anything of the like recently (can't remember the last time I did). There have been Windows security updates, of course, but it seems unlikely that system updates could affect just that box.

I first noticed this white Conditions box with my last post, which would have been version 1.9.7 I think. That post concerned the new Smart Albums feature (and thanks again for your clarifications!), which appeared in 1.9.6, I think, but I cannot say whether this issue was present in that version (either it wasn't or I didn't search anything the time of 1.9.6).

So, again, in the absence of any (known) changes on my part, I do wonder if this is a bug, maybe brought on by the addition of the Smart Albums feature??? I'll report it as so, in any case, so that Pierre can see if he can confirm it.

Ah! Pierre was writing at the same time I was.

Thanks! And yes, I use the Custom theme; see above for details.

Just use the light or dark theme. Using the "custom" theme requires detailed knowledge.

There can be graphical glitches (that persist across app restart) when switching themes or when using the color labels settings within the app, especially if you use the "Restart now" option when the app notifies you that you will need to restart. Basically, sometimes some graphical elements in the app can get their colors "desynchronized" with the rest of the app.

You may have to go through a sequence of change theme/settings->close app->start app->change theme/settings->close app->restart app a couple of times to set things right.

no, it does not require, lol
Custom theme should be correct out of the box

these issues are not related to Custom theme

Right, in your style_sheet.qss, add

Code: Select all

SearchPanel {
    background-color:  rgb(60,60,60);
}

Except Custom theme is NOT correct out of the box. It has this problem as pictured, which makes the dialog very difficult to read.

And editing the .qss does require you to know what you're doing, at least if you want correct results, unless someone is going to spoonfeed you edits like Pierre just did.

do you have trouble reading or understanding?)

let me rephrase it for you - author of this application should update custom theme so it is correct out of the box

Thanks Pierre, that indeed did the trick. Will that stay in place when the program updates, or should I save the snippet?

Encore merci!
