If I choose a category to use as filter, the appropriate images are shown.
But if I choose a category to use as exclude filter (Alt-left mouse)
the icon in the pane changes,
but the results doesn't filter for images not assigned to the category.
There has to be another category chosen as filter (but not "All"),
to make the exclusion of a sub category work.
In other words:
The exclude filter for a category seems to work (icon change), but doesn't.
I know I can identify the images that are not assigned to a category
by the find function (quite cumbersome), but why doesn't it do at
Catalog filter pane?
Is it bug, or do I get something wrong?
"Catalog Filter" pane, exclude category dysfunctional?

Re: "Catalog Filter" pane, exclude category dysfunctional?
Actually that was my aim with my first post
(and additionally in the bug report viewtopic.php?t=50144)...
OK, again:
Category Filter pane, no selection made ==> all images shown.
Select Alt-Click for some category.
What happens: Nothing.
Would should happen: Show all images NOT assigned to selected category.
Further description/ reasoning see above and in the bug report.

Re: "Catalog Filter" pane, exclude category dysfunctional?
Checked in 1.9.10:
Sorry cannot confirm it is fixed.
Scenario @ Category Filter Pane:
Click: All
Result: All number images are shown. Then
Alt-Click (Exclude) any other personal defined Category with (say 3) images assigned to.
Expected result: Show number-3 images.
Result: Nothing happens. Still all number images are shown.

Re: "Catalog Filter" pane, exclude category dysfunctional?
ok, i understand. 'All' as other special items doesn't use other selected nodes.
This fix is for "you select catagory 'A', and exclude category 'B'"

Re: "Catalog Filter" pane, exclude category dysfunctional?
We're still misunderstanding, as I didn't realized that "special items" are exclusive.
So again:
The aim is to show all items that are not assigned to a category (say "France").
(I do not want to show all not-assigned to "France" with respect being assigned to say "Politics".)
How to achieve that?
For sure you will need to click Alt-LeftMouse at "France".
But from which state?
You just told me that "special items" (like All) don't combine with anything.
(BTW when adding a "special item" (Ctrl-Click) to an already chosen category,
only the "special items" are shown, but the former chosen categories button remain selected)
Ok, but from which state will I get any images not assigned to "France" then?
If the state is having checked another Category (say "Politics"),
then Alt-LeftMouse "France" will be in addition to "Politics":
all images with "Politics" and/or (depending MatchMode) not-"France".
Which is not what you want.
If you unselect "Politics" then (by Ctrl-LeftMouse)
it shows all images that are categorized at all, but not with "France".
Which still isn't what is needed.
As there are missing all items not categorized at all.
Additional Ctrl-Click at "Uncategorized" doesn't do (see above).
If the state is showing folders, and then switching to Category Filters,
Alt-clicking "France" the result is same as above.
Maybe this isn't a bug, but just the way MP does I wonder...

Re: "Catalog Filter" pane, exclude category dysfunctional?
Still it remains strange:
If you want to show all images not assigned to a category
- you either have to check an arbitrary other category first (then add Alt-"France", then remove the first category) or
- you have to switch to folder view, change back to Category filter view (to have no category button checked), and then do Alt-"France".

Re: "Catalog Filter" pane, exclude category dysfunctional?
The underlying cause is that Alt-"France" operates additionally only.
I.e. there is no straight key combination to check it exclusively.
My suggestion for that:
