In the browser details, you can only select from a fixed list of iptc & exif metadata variables. However, XnViewMP is able to display most xmp metadata in the image "Properties" just fine, so obviously the toolkit is there w/o calling exiftool. XMP is becoming more important as esp. the move from the legacy IPTC is clear, newer IPTC extensions are to be found in XMP tags.
Suggestion: It would be nice if we'd could insert *any* metadata from the properties panel in the usual suspect's location (tooltip, caption for thumbnails, ...) like {XMP-dc:Identifier}.

Most useful fields are available in version 1.10.54.
While that doesn't satisfy the "ALL fields" request, it's a huge improvement.
Many thanks to Pierre and any others who made this happen!

Everything of consequence should be available, at least for image files. That was the intention...
Keep in mind you can't judge the extent of the supported metadata just from something like the auto-complete/filter when configuring Details view columns. That only shows possibilities that currently exist in your database. If you have never imported a file with a particular tag, it will not show in the list. But when you finally do have data for that field, it should become available.
Is there something that you need that you find you can't add by using {exiftool:group:tag} or the built-in fields?

Re: Support XMP metadata in browser
Thanks for the reply, jkm.
Maybe I missed it in my forum, release notes, and bug tracker searching, but I had no idea the Browser Details view columns were related to metadata fields in the Catalog Database. That is a very helpful tip.
I updated my database, something I rarely pay attention to, and sure enough, some additional metadata fields I occasionally use showed up in the list of options.
I also see in the XnView.ini in the [Browser] section a columns entry with a comma delimited list of the metadata field names (along with the headerSize companion entry).
Any other details you can point me to for this enhancement?
