In the linux (ubuntutu) app it is not working.
Should I delete the thumb.db and xnview.db file and let them be rebuilt by the program?

Yes. I thought that's what you said you were going to do in your previous post.

Do you have all the categories saved in the images or sidecars as keywords/subjects, so they'll be re-imported with the images? That way you won't lose anything.

Remember, I tested on Linux and the counts worked, at least when the number of files was small. So start with just a few images and make sure the counts work before importing tens of thousands.

Make a backup of your files before you delete them, just in case.

Hi,

Thanks. All is written on the files, so the nothing is lost.

I done deleted both db files, and started again. First I opened one of the folders with just a few pictures, and the count, for current and recursive doesn't work. It works fine for global.

I have installed the .deb package, not the appimage and this is the release, in case it may help

I guess that I'll just have to live with it.

Can you try the appimage? That’s what I tried and it worked. If it doesn’t work for you, it would seem to be something with Ubuntu.

Well, with the AppImage it works, at least for a few images. Thanks. I will now go all in with all the pictures and see how it goes.

So, problem is kind of solved. I might try again with the deb package now that it works, keeping the config files, as I prefer that option for installations. With the appimage I don't see the xnview icon on the app bar of the system, just a general icon that doesn't identify the program. But I guess that this is really a linux thing.

Some additional feedback.

I installed the deb package, and it seemed to work fine, but.... I realized that some of the counting was off, so I did an "update catalog from files", and then, it stopped working for those files, I could still see other counts for other categories.

I have switched back to the appimage, and, .... it is not working anymore. Now I a really puzzled. I have even tried to re install everything from zero without success.

So, i think that I a giving up.

Pepelu wrote: Tue Mar 24, 2026 4:22 pm P.s. by the way, I have tried in windows on a new installation of release 1.10.5 and have the same issue.
So you have the problem on windows AND linux, right? 'Global' works, and 'Current folder recurse' not?
I send you a PM
Pierre.

In windows it has been solved by a complete clean start. I think. I haven't tried updating or modifying the catalog in any way.

I am not sure that I understand this request. In windows I am using a widows PC and for Linux an Ubuntu PC, two different computers.

Well, here I am again.

I have a fresh install of the appimage app, I have uploaded all my files, and now it is working. it may be an issue with the deb package and ubuntu (24.04). I am going to stick to the appimage for the time being as it seems to work fine.

Not sure that the problem comes from package or ubuntu, but more the number of files in database or current path

Hi Pierre.

I am using the appimage, with the same number of files, and, for the moment, it is working fine.

You have said something interesting here "current path", I wasn't paying attention to this setting "Base path of files". When you change this setting is when the problem comes up. I think. So, now I know something more. Thanks.

I have now installed again the .deb package. I'll keep a close look to see if and when it may happen again.

Unless you’re using multiple computers and need relative paths, you shouldn’t change the “base path” setting. For use on a single computer, that setting should be left at the default, which is “/“

If you change this setting while you already have files in the database, you’ll break things.

The Base Path setting is not commonly used, and there have been other bugs in the past that were revealed by people using this setting, so you could well experience a big others don’t see if you have this at something other than the default.

Bottom line: don’t mess with it unless you know what you’re doing and have a good database backup. :)
