XnView: MP v1.10.5 x64
OS: Windows 10 Pro x64
When I open an image from the OS, XnViewMP's viewer mode appears correctly as usual. But when i switch to browser mode (UI or double click), the file selection appears reset to the top of the current file list. This didn't happen in the previous versions, the selection pointed to the image.
(after the first opening, it works correctly again, but my most frequent operation is opening an image file directly from the OS or browser)
Effect: image selection lost after switching to browser the first time
To reproduce:
1. Browse a folder with more than one file.
2. Open one image from the 2nd+ position.
3. Switch from viewer to browser.
4. The first file will appear selected, instead of the image you chose
Actual behaviour (bug): the first file is selected
Expected behaviour: the correct image is selected

This might actually be incorrect settings.
To achieve the behavior you desire, you must have TWO settings set correctly.
Settings:Interface:Select File in Browser = ON
Settings:File list:Auto-select first item on entering folder=OFF
The behavior you describe as "buggy" is consistent with having both settings ON.
Please check your settings and report back.

Re: v1.10.5 image selection lost after switching to browser the first time
Thank you, that worked (the 2nd setting was ON).
To be true it was useful when traversing different folders and it didn't affect the file opening, previously.
I wonder why this suddenly changed with an update.. perhaps it was considered a bug to fix?
Maybe I could revert to an older version.

Re: v1.10.5 image selection lost after switching to browser the first time
Umm, that thread seems about an extra issue about remembering folder selections when traversing them.
Mine is about selecting the correct image file when opening it from the OS.
In theory they could cohexist like:
- image opened from os\browser -> always select the image
- traversing folders -> when entering a new dir select the first file (first image?) but remember selections in previous N folders (like a selections history).
I'm not sure what's the point of not selecting anything when traversing directories, instead? (2nd setting=OFF)
Maybe it's because it's quicker?
