The SONY A7V (ILCE-7M5) provides three RAW recording formats:
1. Lossless Compressed RAW
2. Compressed RAW
3. Compressed RAW (HQ)
The first format, “Lossless Compressed RAW”, functions correctly within XnView MP. Technical discrepancies are limited to the latter two formats.
When utilizing “Compressed RAW” or “Compressed RAW (HQ)” for vertical (portrait) orientation captures, XnView MP incorrectly renders these images in a horizontal (landscape) orientation. Further testing conducted via DCRAW to extract embedded thumbnails confirms that these thumbnails display correctly in a vertical orientation within XnView MP. This suggests the primary issue resides in the software's parsing of the RAW metadata rather than the embedded preview data.
An additional technical discrepancy has been identified: XnView MP is unable to access the full-resolution embedded thumbnails within these two RAW formats. The resolution is currently restricted to 1616x1080, whereas the actual full-scale dimensions are 7168x5120.
