There is a rather annoying problem that has been around for over a year now, I think I wrote about it somewhere before, but it still hasn't been fixed.
It's essentially easy to replicate. Simply open XnViewMP and minimize it to the taskbar. Then open any image, for example, from File Explorer (XnViewMP should be the default program, of course).
If you open an image from any other program, be it File Explorer, Total Commander, or something else, XnViewMP will open the image but remain minimized to the taskbar. In reality, the program should restore itself and come to the foreground, always on top.

This problem is supposed to be fixed in XnView MP 1.11.4. Please check and confirm the bug fix here.
