How to prevent XMP file creation.
I am still recovering from errors in my use of XnView MP due to my ignorance. What do I set in settings to prevent XMP files from being created? Plus anything else I should not select until I have learned more about the software.

It does not seem like you are reading or paying attention to the answers you've already been given...ChasZuck wrote: Tue Jul 07, 2026 5:55 pm I am still recovering from errors in my use of XnView MP due to my ignorance. Here's where Pierre directed you to Tools->Settings:Metadata:Sidecar when you asked a very similar question:
viewtopic.php?p=214757
And then when you asked the same question again, I gave you this recommendation:
So I suggest you revisit both those pieces of advice, actually LOOK at that Settings page, read the settings on that page, and see if you can find the setting that might possibly be responsible for creating XMP sidecar files.jkm wrote: Wed Jul 01, 2026 4:06 am You just posted a thread about this same thing a few days ago. There’s no need to duplicate post.
Just google “what are XMP sidecar files” and start reading.
I will also point out: you have definitely seen the setting before, because you changed it. XnViewMP does not create those files by default; the user has to turn the setting on.
Best of luck to you...

Re: How to prevent XMP file creation.
So sorry. I should have looked at my previous posts. I am thinking XnView, like Lightroom, is beyond my mental ability. One thing I do like about it is the keyword list. I think, for now, I will refrain from doing any editing in XnView, but noting the files that I want to change tags in and do that in File Explorer. Thanks for your patience.
