Files are hidden if in folders containing .nomedia

Post by B.Douille »

Android has a special feature to hide media files like sounds, pictures and videos. For example, those medias shared via WhatsApp can be hidden* from the Gallery and from video and music players (this is a user option). This prevents any application seeking for "Medias" to retrieve these. However any application navigating through the storage can manage, listen, visualise the files.

With XnView mobile those pictures and videos are well hidden in Gallery mode. However, in Storage mode you can navigate in the folders containing those hidden media but you don't see the files themselves whereas you should.
I noticed XnConvert has the same "feature" but ResizeMe allows visualising/selecting pictures when using the system selector.

File manager shows hidden file .nomedia and media files in a folder:

*The files in question are not hidden files and not in hidden folders. To do this, the application just create a hidden file named .nomedia in the folder containing the medias in question. For WhatsApp, the folders are in /Android/Media/com.whatsapp/WhatsApp/Media/...
You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.
