Retain individual centering when changing zoom on compared images

Post by dwynn »

Suppose I take four quick consecutive photos of a distant perched bird, but slight hand motion between shots causes the bird's eye to be situated in different parts of the four photos. Suppose I use XnView MP in Compare mode to view the four photos together and zoom them to 100% (1:1). I then pan each photo so that the bird's magnified eye is centered in each of the four comparison frames. Suppose I also produce the same comparison setup in FastStone Image Viewer.

If I now reduce the overall zoom factor for all four photos in XnView MP, the eyes are no longer centered in the frames and are, in some cases, not even in the frames. If I do the same in FastStone, the eyes stay centered in the frame. Is it possible to make XnView MP retain the same centered part of the frame for different zoom factors the way FastStone does? It would certainly make XnView MP better for detailed comparison of features of four versions of the "same" photo.

FastStone has setting to change 'Zoom at' between Center (default) and Cursor position
XnViewMP zooms at cursor position

However, there is a bug when comparing >2 images
0. have 4 copies of the same image in folder
1. open folder in Browser
2. select 3 or 4 images and press Shift+C to Compare
- enable Navigator for better view
3. zoom-in/out multiple times
it does not zoom-in/out at cursor position
no such issue when comparing 2 images
