Draw dialogue default tool and other improvements

When I open draw dialogue, select tool is selected and 90% of time first thing I have to do is to change tool to pen and 5% of time to text or line, 4% of time to rectangle/ellipse and the rest I think I never needed.



What in your opinion should be the tool which is selected when you open draw dialogue?

I've never had a situation where I would need the select tool in the beginning and I actually am not sure if I've even used it.

Couple of suggestions to improve the UI


1. set PEN as default tool (this is e.g. how it is in Windows Snip tool), OR 2. let user decide default tool in settings OR 3. use as default tool the tool which was used in last session.

I am not sure if 3. would make sense. In general 1. makes most sense but if you have a lot of pics where you need to just add some text description it might make sense to have option to switch default tool temporarily.


Another way to improve might be to put tool menu in right click context menu so that you can change between them faster.

Open to the last tool used seems logical to me and would meet the situation you describe...

Persistence of settings is not normally considered when a new interface is added, but after user requests has often been added later for other actions such as Canvas resize, to name just one.
