What do you think about this 'batch convert' ui for basic users?

For "basic users" you want something very simple.

There should not be an "Actions" section at all. That can be available in the Advanced dialog.

At a quick look, I would tend to agree that if you want to create something very simple, you would likely need to remove more of the existing options: such an interface would need to be entirely self-explanatory.

To my mind, the existing interface, if the tabs are viewed in turn from left-to-right, is already largely self-explanatory with respect to basic operation, options and settings. If there is a problem, it is more the number of options and settings now provided.

What would be helpful would be some documentation: normally very few users show an interest in preparing documentation, but jkm has already in other threads shown some interest! :D

Going further, what could be really useful would be an easy way when needed to bring up information on a specific topic. That could be an overview of the operation of each tab, or a particular option on a tab, for example on the Output tab, how to configure the save settings to obtain the desired output files.

The question would then arise as to how to display the information selected. In a simple situation that could, in principle, be as a tooptip, but more generally display of the required amount of text in a box of some kind would be needed and more attractive. Probably several possibilities, any thoughts on how that might best be done?

That's a start...
