[v45] - Resize to same original folder automatically rename destination file and does not override original file

I did a resize conversion job of jpeg pictures to reduce the picture size and get a smaller filesize with lower jpeg quality level (.e.g. 80%).
The resize conversion job works well, but the destination file get a new filename with the suffix (1) at the end of the original filename.
Will it be possible to override the original file if you choose the original folder as destination folder?

I'm against it. For me, it's protection against making a mistake.

I agree, crop and resize an original is a significant usage vs keeping the original safe and create a modified copy.

Another way to solve this would be adding a 3rd option at time of saving would help.
Something like "Cancel" "Overwrite" "Select folder"

And other way forward, adding value for XnView, could be adding a tick-box named "Overwrite/Move" or "Suppress original". Such workflow would allow to keep the choice of saving the modified file(s) in another folder and delete the original. All in one go.

I agree with many of you that, as a rule, you choose a folder where the files don't yet exist.
Nevertheless, it can happen that you convert files multiple times because you’re not satisfied with the result (file size or something similar). In that case, you might convert the file a second time.

I think the idea of adding another checkbox or button in the conversion dialog—which optionally allows you to overwrite the file—is a good one.
