JXL (convert to jxl) improvements

Post by A:C »

Hi - and first of all -- THX for the great software!

I am using XnView MP 1.11.6 on Windows 11 and (an older version) on Linux.

While using the batch convert function to convert my pictures to the new JXL-Format:

1. I saw the message "WARNING: Converting to 24-Bit-RGB" but why? JXL can handle higher bit-depths. It would be great to have the full possibility of the new format.

2. I'd like to have an extra option for JPG->JXL. There exist a mode that converts JPG to JXL without loss (not the lossless mode or quality 100%). This mode do not touch the picture data itself (no decode and new re-encode) -- as I know only the entropy-encoding is changed. This results with some jpg-images in smaller sizes even if I choose a bad quality (e.g. only 60%) while "normal" conversion.

Lossless rotation (90°CW / 90°CCW / 180°) is possible to set in the jxl-file-header. It would be great to have the lossless rotation function as it exists for jpg. (I know this is not implemented in the 0.12 reference-encoder or jxltran jet -- so this is a future request )

Greetings an a nice day
