The button for the thumbnail scaling slider in the filelist (browser) toolbar currently has the following tooltip that appears on hover:
"Toggle slider function: thumbnail size [pixels] or thumbnails per column"
This needs to be changed to the following:
"Toggle slider function: thumbnail size [pixels] or number of columns" ( or "number of columns in window" if there's room)
This change will more clearly describe what happens when the second choice is invoked (button pressed), i.e, the slider makes the browser increase or decrease the number of columns in the window.
Also, see here, subject 4, for more on improving the thumbnail scaling slider, as related to the thumbnails themselves.

I would go with something shorter, eg:
Slider: thumbnail size / thumbnails per row
Toggle slider: thumbnail size / number per row
Slider: thumbnail size / thumbnails per row
Toggle slider: thumbnail size / number per row

"Toggle slider: thumbnail size / thumbnails per row" would work for me.
"Thumbnails per row" requires a slight mental pause to understand, but perhaps a shorter one than my "number of columns."
I do think the full "toggle slider" is clearer than just "slider" though.
