1.12.1: Thumbnail view very slow after update

Post by andrew.james.heard »

I'm new to XnView but after installing, the Windows File Explorer is noticeably slower rendering JPG thumbnails than previously. Maybe related to 1.12.1 too? I had various attempts (registry) at disabling the XnView thumbnail handler without success. Confirmed by uninstalling/ rebooting - faster render > re-installing - slower again. Of course once cached not a problem either.

note while each JPG thumbnail is rendering (and for a heap of other file extensions), the icon is displayed from Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\XnViewMP.jpg\DefaultIcon\default = C:\Program Files\XnViewMP\FileIcons\jpg.ico so dead giveaway XnView is the bottleneck

thanks; as I said, my experience was that the thumbnails are rendered faster when XnView was not installed; it was noticeable enough I wasted an hour trying to disable render, clearly now to no avail

what if this association didn't exist - i.e. initially/ temporarily displaying a XnView .ICO before the full render; it seems unnecessary
Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\XnViewMP.jpg\DefaultIcon\default = C:\Program Files\XnViewMP\FileIcons\jpg.ico

Very strange, thumbnails on which format?
