@xnview, thank you for XnView mobile!
I have two motivations for installing XnView mobile:
1. I am a fan of XnView since 2002 and happy to see the new Android app.
2. I am exasperated by Google Photos with their meta-tag based approach. I told them twice to consider of users who organise their collection by folders and have no time to maintain meta tags of files, but they are immune to advice and ignore demands.
However, Android de facto does not permit free MIME-type association, and thereby effectively prevents users from using an alternative to the built-in image viewer. In a third-party file manager such as Total Commander, a file-type association can indeed be configured, but invoking it passes only a single Intent; consequently, it is not possible to swipe through an image folder with XnView Mobile—instead, one has to return to the external file browser and load the next file into XnView from there.
Therefore, the highest priority for every image-viewer app should be to implement its own file-system navigation capabilities, so that it can navigate without external assistance through an image collection organized in the form of folders.
I tried XnView Mobile’s search function, search for parent folders, but unfortunately it does not work correctly: some folders are found, others are not. For example, my folder named “Photoalbum” is found, but a subfolder “Vacation” or “2020” is not, even though the photos are stored there.
Folder navigation to solve the Scoped storage limitation
