1.12.2: resizing image looses EXIF data

Post by postcd »

XnView: MP 1.12.2 .dpkg file
OS: Ubuntu 24 based Linux

Saving .jpg image with exif (Ctrl+Alt+S) as .jpg with EXIF checkbox checked, WORKS to preserve EXIF:
xiftool -EXIF:all resulting-image.jpg # or open in xnview, Alt+Enter, EXIF tab

Doing the resize before the saving,
resize.jpg
keeps showing EXIF data in XNview - Alt+Enter (but now not in EXIF tab, which is now missing, but in EXIFtool tab), but after saving the image (i have ticked "Keep EXIF"):
saving.jpg
the resulting .jpg file is missing the exif data, even it shows EXIF and EXIFtool tabs:
resized-image-exiftab.jpg
resized-image-exiftooltab.jpg
$ exiftool -EXIF:all resized-image.jpg
Modify Date : ***
Compression : JPEG (old-style)
Thumbnail Offset : 118
Thumbnail Length : 4382
Thumbnail Image : (Binary data 4382 bytes, use -b option to extract)
This behavior seems weird, other editor (Gwenview) is able to preserve same image EXIF after resizing and saving. I can provide source image with EXIF only in private, if image is necessary and you can not reproduce.

:bugconfirmed: Thanks to your detailed description I can reproduce the problem.
It's related to 'gamma' setting
