Add option to choose sort style in display mode...
Please add option to choose file sort style in display mode [so users don't have to bring up the file browser to get that option]. Thanks.
Re: Add option to choose sort style in display mode...
If i have an option for view mode and browser mode it's too complicated for basic users...TsunamiZ wrote:Please add option to choose file sort style in display mode [so users don't have to bring up the file browser to get that option]. Thanks.

Re: Add option to choose sort style in display mode...
I think it's necessary to have sort options in both modes, because users need to have quick access to choose what order they want to browse through images [by name, date, type, etc.]. Too much of a hassle to change between modes just to get that option.

In an old version, i add sorting option for view and browser, but i remove it as requested by users...TsunamiZ wrote:I think it's necessary to have sort options in both modes, because users need to have quick access to choose what order they want to browse through images [by name, date, type, etc.]. Well, I think I gave you a good reason to add it back. Since that option affects the behavior of both modes, it should be in both modes.
Re: Add option to choose sort style in display mode...
Would be handy to have sort options in the image right click menu, too.
When you deal with heavy image management and sorting, it is very useful. When there is a lot of files, it's often necessary to sort by name, type, time, etc.Xyzzy wrote:I think this option is not quite useful.
Is there any scenario when it is useful (except 'user changed his mind for no special reason')?

Re: Add option to choose sort style in display mode...
Are we talking of two sort orders (one for view mode and one for browser mode) or just one sort order for both modes and a way to access it in view mode?TsunamiZ wrote:Please add option to choose file sort style in display mode [so users don't have to bring up the file browser to get that option]. As Pierre has pointed out, we had two different sort orders in the past, but this turned out to be very confusing. Havine one sort order and make it accessible from both view mode and browser mode sounds o.k. to me.
Yes, but I am curious what is specific need for such sort-on-the-fly.TsunamiZ wrote:When you deal with heavy image management and sorting, it is very useful. When there is a lot of files, it's often necessary to sort by name, type, time, etc.Xyzzy wrote:I think this option is not quite useful.

When it is useful that you browse files in date order and for some reason you want to see next file in fe. filename order.

That's what I mean.Havine one sort order and make it accessible from both view mode and browser mode sounds o.k. to me.
Once again, it's necessary in certain heavy file management scenarios. When you have lots of dif files to sort through. Such as a photo collection or website creation, etc.Xyzzy wrote:Yes, but I am curious what is specific need for such sort-on-the-fly.TsunamiZ wrote:When you deal with heavy image management and sorting, it is very useful. Reachable, plz !

- I would wish that the sorting mode be accessible again from View.
- In example, I've often a bunch of new pics sorted by date in Total Commander where I Drag & Drop the first one onto the XnView icon in a tool-bar. Then, I can't see directly the second, because I land in XnView with another sorting mode, so I'm bound to close it, and to remake the operation for the second pic…
- Changing continually the sorting mode in the browser only is a pain in the neck.

OK, some topics.
Shall View sorting order be persistent in one run?
And between sessions?
Only current file sequence is resorted (fe. selected files in Browser)?
Is sorting order changed also in browser after change in View?
Should the sorting options be identical as in Browser? If No, what options should be avaliable?
Should these options be cascaded? If yes, what should be the name of the menu item?
And so on...
It would be so nice if user requests were complete

For you probably, but please don't punish people who needs this feature ! You are not the only who works with xnView !Xyzzy a écrit:
