I configured XnView to display images only (no audio, no video, no pdf). XmView seems to ignore this setting when it is started with image file name on command line.
Example:
I have a folder "c:\temp" with three files in it: "1.jpg", "2.pdf" and "3.jpg".
When I start XnView from the Start menu and browse to "c:\temp", I see two image thumbnails, exactly as expected. I doubleclick "1.jpg" to show it in the view window. Now I can switch between the two images using PgDn and PgUp keys. XnView ignores the PDF - and that's what I like.
But, when I start the viewer from the command line by entering "XnView.exe c:\temp\1.jpg" and then press PgDn, XnView will display the PDF file. That seems odd.

I've got it.
The 'show as preview' checkbox is what causes the problem. I need to uncheck ALL FOUR checkboxes on the "PS, PDF..." line to make XnView ignore the PDF.
Thanks for the idea!

Only 'show as preview' is enough...Anonymous wrote: The 'show as preview' checkbox is what causes the problem. I need to uncheck ALL FOUR checkboxes on the "PS, PDF..." line to make XnView ignore the PDF.

I noticed the same problem about 4 days ago and was writing Pierre (the author) about it. As in the forum here, he said he could not reproduce it.
As I read now here, the solution is the images-displayed-settings in the browser options. the checkbox "Show in preview" for pdf files has to be unchecked, even BEFORE unchecking "Show item in view" boxes. If done otherwise the checkbox "show in preview" is greyed out and cannot be unchecked, but the problem persists.
I would still call that bug though, but now that it is solvable only a small one anymore
