Image Quality in SlideShow
Moderators: helmut, XnTriq, xnview
The two options, one for enlarging, one for shrinking must remain independant, I think. For example, I want clear, good quality when shrinking, but when enlarging it must be quick and I don't mind seeing pixels. Currently, the high quality and enlarging is very slow, so having high quality for both shrinking and enlarging is no good setting for me.xnview wrote:But sometimes, enlarging small picture make a blured view....xjigger wrote:Yes, I believe a single option for both should be enough.xnview wrote:But only ONE option??
I have the same problem. It never worked for me, high image quality in slide show when fitting large images to window.
I'm using Win98 too, like more of the posters in this topic with the same problem, or related probles.
I have really tried all possible settings, no results
I will not upgrade to Win XP to work around this bug, cause I will change from Windows to Linux Slackware or FreeBSD (XnView can not be installed yet on current stable Slackware, hopefully in next version, and on FreeBSD there's a huge unsolved bug too), unfortunatly...
I really use XnView a whole lot, and like it VERY much. I hope this bug get solved.
P.S. I'm using XnView 1.74, but also have 1.82.4 installed now, but that doesn't make a difference (but there is a significant difference in latest version with speed when reducing or enlarging images with high quality zoom!)
If I can help with test/debugging versions on my Win98 machine, no problem, if I can help and give some in return for your fantastic program, that would be an honour and apleasure.
Let me know if you need a Win98 tester.
P.S. A reason why the solving of this bug is so important to me, is that untill now I reduced large images to my desktop size (1024x768), but now I got a new monitor (1280x1024), and all the previously reduced images are smaller then the screen now. So I decided I don't reduce large images anymore, but want to keep them as they are, because in some years from now, there will be another new monitor, with a larger resolution. But if this bug does not get solved, it's no use, then I have to start looking for an other graphics program, just for slide shows.
If you do a search on this forum with option 'Search for all terms' enabled and keywords high zoom quality slide show you'll see that there is more topics on this bug.
Have a nice weekend!

I maybe should be more clear. High quality works well on View>High zoom quality (slower)>Reduce, Enlarge & Fit to Desktop/Windows, but not in View>Slide Show (with 'Use high quality' enabled).xnview wrote:It's an another problem, high quality doesn't work on win98 when you fit large picture?Manuel wrote:I have the same problem. It's exactly the problem described by others in this thread. If you need I can help with testing/debugging on my Win98 machine. I have no progamming skills, but I can test for you and communicate the results, would be very nice if this bug got solved.
Some people still use Win98 on older machines, and Win98 is not as complex as XP, so it's easyier to tweak and tune it and remove Internet Explorer and Outlook, and other dangerous things to make it quite a safe OS.
And as long as there's this problem with XnView and FreeBSD, I can not use it on FreeBSD, so I'm stuck to using XnView on Win98...
But why did you write that high quality doesn't works? You have a blank screen?Manuel wrote:I maybe should be more clear. The high quality used in slideshow is not exactly the same as view/fullscreen, i use the hardware smooth resize
Pierre.
Why? Because it doesn't work as it should. Am I not clear? And no, I don't have a blank screen, it's just that in a slideshow pictures larger then then Desktop gets fitted to window/desktop/screen resolution. That is what I want, of course, but they don't get reduced to desktop size with high quality, like in View, where it works very well.xnview wrote:But why did you write that high quality doesn't works? It's like this quote:
xnview wrote:Yes, on 98 there is some problemxjigger wrote:Ooops, you're right. It works on my other machine. It seems to depend on the system. The high quality slideshow works on my Windows XP host, while it's not working on my Windows 98 host. Is that possible?Drahken wrote:They aren't in high quality for me in preview mode, only in slideshow mode.
Why is it not the same??? And what is 'hardware smooth resize'? Cann't you use same method both for View (where reducing or enlarging with high quality works perfect) and for Slide Show?xnview wrote:The high quality used in slideshow is not exactly the same as view/fullscreen, i use the hardware smooth resize
I'll add the 2 methods in next version...Manuel wrote:Why is it not the same??? And what is 'hardware smooth resize'? If that would be the solution to the problem that would be vèry welcome. Thanks in advance!xnview wrote:I'll add the 2 methods in next version...Manuel wrote:Why is it not the same???
