I have exactly the same problem and WinXP errormessage like Lupin III!
http://newsgroup.xnview.com/viewtopic.php?p=28250#28250
I use XnView 1.82.4de (German Version) and I have WinXPprof SP2 (German Version) and all actual patches installed.
I have no Daemon-Tools installed and my PC is a 3GHz Pentium 4 with 1.5GB RAM.
I did some other tests (also the one with the Cache disable, it does not work) and it is definitly the option "Read one image ahead". If this option is enabled, xnview crashes everytime I open an image from outside xnview.
With the previous installed XnView Version 1.80.3 on my PC I never got that problem.
So thanks to Lupin III for the workaround, but please repair the "Read one image ahead" option, because to disable this function slow down the fun with XnView.

PS. Nevertheless XnView is a great tool!
XnView crashes everytime I open an image from outside XnView

Ticked here...

• I've that option ticked here too, and not any problem to open any supported image from the files managers……So thanks to Lupin III for the workaround, but please repair the "Read one image ahead" option…
- However, the next (and last) one “Keep current image in cache” is not ticked here… Have you it enabled ?
