quicker search by adding IPTC data to cache

Post by Ernst »

I like the option to search the files for IPTC data. However this can be a time consuming process when bigger directories with many fotos are searched as all the files have to be checked individually.
Is it possible to store the IPTC data of once searched directories in the cache and use it as source for the next search?

Thanks,
Ernst

Yes, a good enhancement... (but not for next release)

An option for you might be to use Digimarc's freeware 'image search' which makes a html page for each photo you have, and include the keywords in IPTC as well.

Then these files are indexed by a desktop searchprogram such as available from Google (which I use) Yahoo! or MSN.

This works excellent. But I agree, its the only option I am missing from XnView!

Hi, I'd really like to have this feature as well; currently searching IPTC data in XnView is terribly slow.

Is the Description (descript.ion files) cached? If so, where is it cached?

Ideally, I'd like the caches to be in the same folder as the thumbnail cache, but in separate files that could be purged separately (or deleted manually, individually)... I like to flush my thumbnail cache as it gets enormous, but I wouldn't normally flush the others unless I moved a lot of files.

Thanks,
Barry
