Z80 Screendump(.scr) association

Post by Golfareninsweden »

Hello!

Beeing a ZX Spectrum fan I use XnView to view Z80 Screendumps (.scr)

Looking in associations menu under options i can't associate '.scr' files with XnView. I know that Windows screensaver has the same extension and that it could be a conflict.

I would like to be able to do that.

More information about the .scr format can be found here.

http://www.sinclairfaq.com/cssfaq/refer ... ts.htm#SCR

Cheers

Christian

P.S

I would also like to be able to save as .scr format :-) but thats another question.

Pierre has already stated that you can't associate SCR files under Windows.

no, you can.

open my computer->folder options->file types->new
set file association=SCR
click advanced
select void action (top of list)
click ok
set xnview in "change" for "opens with"

so thats all :)

question is: why isn't this format supported by the latest version of xnview? I was quite surprised when I downloaded the latest version and it couldn't open SCR

Do you have enabled option/general/startup/Use all formats?

Sorry to drag up an old topic, but I'm always told that this is better ettiquette than starting a new one. :)

I've just installed the latest XNView on my shiny new desktop machine (running Windows XP Pro), and tried it out by browsing the \spectrum folder of one of my old hard drives (which of course I've installed in the new machine -- I don't want to lose 12 years' work). I was disappointed that XNView no longer seems to support .scr (and yes, I've read this thread and tried the suggestions here).

Am I overlooking anything? After all, although .scr was a bad choice of extension (almost as dumb as Wavefront choosing .obj for 3D objects), it isn't too difficult for a program to determine if a .scr is a Spectrum screen dump; if it's exactly 6912 bytes then it almost certainly is (and it's very unlikely that any Windows screen saver would be anywhere near that small). Likewise, if it's exactly 12288 bytes then it's very likely a Timex hi-colour screen dump, and if it's exactly 12288 bytes then it's almost certainly a Timex hi-res screen.

Incidentally, the URL posted at the start of this thread is now obsolete due to being grabbed by a domain-theft company; the current URL is:
