Auto thumb creation in folder tree

Post by robc »

I already suggested this in the announcement thread http://newsgroup.xnview.com/viewtopic.php?t=7405 but possibly a standalone topic is more visible and we may start discussing the subject at the alpha stage.

I find an option to build thumbnails for a complete folder tree (i.e. a folder and all its subfolders) is absolutely  needed at this point: the current option to build thumbnails only when a folder is first visited is not enough if you have lots of folders (with possibly a few pictures inside them) with pictures or video, it's painstaking to visit each one of them, one after another... I believe that the point is just that: if you have a few folders, regardless of the total number of pictures, the current approach is good; on the contrary, if you have many nested folders, possibly under one "image folder" root, it's very annoying.

Somebody may remember the issue had already been pointed out some time ago and Pierre said that he would think about it after the implementation of the thumbs database, which we now have; I hope such an option will be implemented in this release without having to wait further, since as I already said most of the necessary code should already be in place for the "standard" single-folder thumb creation, with just the need for some code to manage the subfolder list.

Any comment? Is there anybody who believes that such a feature is important?

I'll add a function for that...
