XnView IPTC editor feature suggestion

Post by mike »

I feel that you could add a simple feature to the IPTC editor that would greatly help many users by speeding up editing as well as making more consistent entries.

Right now every IPTC field is free text entry (which allows for inconsistent values) or loaded from a template file (slow and awkward for many combinations of keywords). My suggestion if to add a "quick list" feature. I'm primarily interested in this feature for the keywords section, but it could be applied to the other IPTC sections. You can add a "quick list" multi-select list box to the right of the keyword list box with two arrow buttons (one pointing in each direction) and a delete button below the "quick list" . After entering and selecting keyword(s) in the picture's IPTC box, you could click on the arrow pointing to the "quick list", which would add the selected keyword(s) to the global XnView keyword list. Later, on different pictures, when you enter the IPTC keyword tab, the "quick list" would be still be populated with those keyword (and any others that were added at different times). You could then select any (multiple) of these "quick list" keywords and click on the arrow pointing to the picture's keyword list and quickly add them to the picture's list. This feature would allow users to quickly add the most repetitive keywords to pictures, without making typing mistakes or being inconsistent with capitalization etc.

I Fully support Mike's suggestion and, for same reasons he says , I suggest that this list is also displayed in the Search Window.
If that suggestion is not too heavy in terms of development, can we expect it for the next version of XnView ( following 1.82.2 ) ?
Congratulations and thanks you for the excellent work already done !!!!

IPTC keyword list

Post by Daniel »

I am using Xnview to annotate my pictures before sending them to Flickr and having a keyword list would be fantastic.

Also the possibility to modify the EXIF data, more specifically the date taken would be very convenient (I am scanning old negatives and I want to put the date taken instead of the default date scanned).

Congratulation for this great tool !

Cordialement.

Technology should help people and not add new constraints!

:) Hello !

- Translation :

“ Being a user since the very first versions, I just restart to reuse (the programme ?) as this last one, and I can notice that a long way has been gone…

- I discovered the built-in IPTC editor, and it's a very good idea to have added a combobox.
- One question : Using Picassa too, I notice that a caption-creation in Picassa (IPTC description-field) is not updated in XnView (the opposite being false). …”

• For the rest, another user, please ? :D

 Kind regards,
Claude

It would be really nice to have included the suggestion made by mike to improve the IPTC editor. I have tested the new alpha 1.90 and couldn't find that improvement. Is there some little chance to see this feature in the final version? This would be so great!
