Storing the cache file in the folder that's being cached

Post by Regolith »

Hello folks!

I'm pretty new to xnview and have found it to be an extraordinary program. However, I recently wanted to burn a few of my larger image folders onto CDs and found that it now takes _ages_ to create new thumbnails from the slow CD media. Is there any way to store the cache file of the folder in the folder so that when you burn it xnview can access the cache directly from the CD?

I've looked in the FAQ:s and searched the forums, but came up with a blank for this. Is it possible?

Thanks in advance!

You can try to burn the cache folder, and modify path for cache file in xnview.ini...

I see.

Given that I have plenty of cache files in my normal cache directory, would it be possible to take _only_ the cashe corresponding to the folder I'm burning and put that on the CD?

If for instance, I'm burning the folder "Bilder Jun-Aug" to a CD, and the corresponding cashe file is 13.db, can I create a file structure on the CD that looks like this:

E:\Bilder Jun-Aug
E:\Cache\13db

Or will xnview not understand that they are related?

If not, would creating a temporary folder like D:\cache, browsing to "Bilder Aug-Jul", letting xnview create a new db file and then moving the new cache folder to the CD work?

An option to read the db file directly from the scanned folder would make this a lot easier.

Anyway, thanks for the reply! I will go experiment now.
