Find damaged photos

Post by TGB72 »

Hi,

My hd crashed recently and I lost a lot of files including thousand of photos, I could recover most of them but many pictures are damaged (photoshop call these pictures incomplete/truncated) so what I'm needing now is separate automatically those that are damaged. there is any way to scan, detect and separate all damaged pictures with xnview

thanks in advance

HD crash is not nice.

A simple way to seperate the damaged images from the non-damaged images in one directory is to browse with XnView, switch to details view (Menu "View->View as->Details") and then sort the images by properties(Menu "View->Arrange by->Properties" or simple click into the column "Properties").
Since the properties of all the damaged images aren't determinable, the info will be blank and the damaged images will be grouped together.

That's the theory, not quite sure whether this really works. Also, the method described above might too be much work if you have many directories.

thanks for reply but it seems not to work since most of damaged pictures have properties (ie. 800x600 16M) and can be viewed with xnview it's just that the pictures are shown incomplete, see below

Like I said before photoshop displays a warning message saying that these pictures are incomplete/truncated/damaged.

yes, xnview read these images like any other one, there is no message, it happens the same thing with other popular viewers, just photoshop can detect that they are damaged :(
It would be great if xnview could detect and group these incomplete photos in the browser
