Re: With correct units

right click any file, choose Properties, and see if there are any kiB's

Hello !
- The specifications I quote are legal an applicable since 2005 in France too…
- You are not right to support this kind of error, it allows i.e. the hard-disk makers to f**** the customers fully legally !
And they are right annoucing the sizes as kb= decimal !
• Who does confuse users ?

auto size is just fine!Dreamer wrote:I support it too, but why not "auto-size" B/kB/MB? There are many 1+MB images now...

I use it in Folder Size Shell Extension (freeware) - if someone want to try this usefull program, it is available for d/l here: http://zoni011.googlepages.com/ (at the bottom)

It would be useful, for example:
- when you open/save image (to send/upload), there is no status bar in "Choose file" dialog, click the "Browse" here
- in file managers status bar is customizable, so there can be size in bytes only, or it can be completely disabled...

I have seen only 2 applications out of the THOUSANDS that I have run that have said "kiB". One of the apps I use daily and it has terms such as
Kibibit (1024 Bits)
Kibibyte (1024 Bytes)
But gives you the choice of Kilobit and Kilobyte. You really think changing a measurement term is going to stop harddrive manufactures from ripping people off?? We better rename inches so that monitor manufactures will stop ripping us off too then!
HUH???
XnView is FRENCH

Hi !
• XnView is a FRENCH programme, it ought follow the French and European specs.
- Sooner or later, Pierre risks to miss good deals with important companies or public services
which are strict about the norms…
- When we have language files and menus as text (planned for 2.0), I set the right units in, for sure.
- Be aware that some media makers show the sizes in the two units,
and that there were a lot of lawsuits in several countries about the use of SI units for binary ones…
• That's all .

Re: XnView is FRENCH
you got me and I agree with all that, the part that got me was the part about how changing a measurement unit would stop harddrive manufactures from cheating people. Trust me they will ALWAYS find a way to cheat people. My favorite of their rip-offs is "unformatted" space. Who can use an unformatted drive? And then PC makers (Dell for one) put "hidden" partitions on them to steal even more space.....
I'll shutup now

It's fine the way it currently is!
You all seem to be forgetting, Windows is an American OS.
If you don't like it, switch to Linux.
XnView is French but the XnView shell extension is a tool for Windows Explorer and that is Windows.
Change it to Kibi or Kib and you'll lose my support.
