Sending e-mail with images
Hi,
I need some help.Under Tools there's an item called e-mail which is not explained in the help menu. When I open up a picture and click on e-mail, a widow opens that gives me some options like recipent name image size and a text field I fill them out and click ok but nothing happens..
What i want to do is take several images , copy them to a separate folder, reduce the copys to about 100 megs each and then e-mail them.
Can someone please talk me through what I need to do to accomplish this?
Thanks

Hello !
• If I got you alright, you want for send attachments by 100 MiB each ?
- I don't think that usual mailers and providers support such a size…
- If I mistake, please try to explain that you want in other words…
• Sending attached images works so fine from XnView, although some mailers don't respond correctly (i.e. some Outlook versions…)
- However, I tested only with some images for hundreds KiB.
Kind regards,
Claude

Hey Claude,
My mistake, I meant about 100 K per image not 100 megs.My Camera takes photos that are typically about 1.5 to 2.5 megs each.I want to e-mail about ten images to my friend who does not have a dsl line.He has dialup, which is as you know very slow.I also only have dialup.
That's why I would like to shrink the images to a smaller size that still has a decent quality. My friend suggested 600 X 800 and the dpi he said should be 100.I'm not very familiar with converting images but I would like to be able to select the pictures I want to send and then convert them to a smaller size and copy them to a separate folder.I hope there is a way to do all that in one step.
I use Yahoo as my e-mail program so I could then send that folder as an attachment.
What would be the most efficient way to do this?
Thanks for your help
Roxy

Not always smaller…
—> gimmeagig
Hello !
• Well, I see…
- It's quite easy to change the size Width ¦ Height of an image to get it smaller,
this is done via the Image menu >> Resize function.
- Unfortunately, the size at KiB is not always smaller, in some cases, it's even bigger… and generally, the quality decreases.
- The images get fuzzy, and need to be sharpened in addition - that increases the size too…
- This has been discussed here already, I can't find out the thread again.
- You might make some copies and test to resize them with different methods you can choose in the Resize dialogue…
- That's all for the moment !

Re: Sending e-mail with images
I have the same question/problem -- how does this feature work ? Do I have to associate XNview with my email (Thunderbird) program somehow? What about the server names ?? There is a box that opens up -- you fill in recip name, and a message click OK and ........... nothinggimmeagig wrote:Hi,

BTW there is a drop down at the bottom of the send email box that will automatically resize the photo for you -- So the question for me is how do I actually get XNview to send an email or interface with Thunderbird
Thanks

Defaut mailer
—> Nicole
Hello !
• XnView uses the mailer programme which is stated as the default one in Windows, no more, no less…
• For instance, here it's Eudora for me.
• There is no need to associate anything to anything anywhere, besides this is not planned AFAIK.
• Please, just ckeck in your settings of “Thunderbird” whether it's stated as the default mailer.
- If it's not, change that. Then that must work !
• However, take care of the attachement size allowed by the mail server !
- Currently, many providers are increasing that size a lot
(i.e. mine allows a 500 MiB mail-box now instead of 20 MiB formerly…).
- So, please test with a reasonable image size prior, and ask for know
which is the biggest allowed attachement to the recipient before…

Thank you so much -- that is EXACTLY what the problem was -- I had to set Thunderbird as my 'internet' default email client -- once I did that it worked perfectly.
For those who don't know how to do this open Internet Explorer then Tool--> Internet Options. Click on the program tab. Then select your email client from the email pull down. Click 'OK' and you are done
The developers may want to add that bit of information to the help and or frequently asked questions section of this forum, I checked both but could not find anything about this question.
Merci - Thank you
Nicole
I add

• Good point, thanks. I don't know about the single developer, but I add this immediately in our Manual ……The developers may want to add that bit of information to the help and or frequently asked questions section of this forum, I checked both but could not find anything about this question. …

QM is my default mailer, I have also tried it with foxmail as default. Xnview doesn't launch the email program at all. When I use the send by email function, the window pops up asking who to send it to etc, I fill that in, click ok, the window closes, nothing else happens. No email prog launches, the email doesn't arrive at my acct. I suspect that xnview's email function isn't compatible with all email software.
Of course, it's really a moot point in my case, I never find myself needing to send a pic by email. Now if the email function were replaced with an ftp function, I'd use that constantly.

This feature doesn't work for me.
I have tried setting my default mail program to: Opera, Outlook Express, Outlook 98, Gemini, and Netscape Communicator 4.5.
Each time I tried a setting, I did a mailto: from the Windows run box, and each time the correct email program started.
But when I tried sending from Xnview, and clicked OK in the email box, nothing happened. No mail program opened, and I got no email messages.
