B4: Dark Videos in Preview Pane

I've only just noticed this but when playing videos in the Preview pane they are lot darker than playing in View mode.

I thought this might be a problem with FFDShow but I went and excluded "xnview.exe" in FFDShow's config and it didn't change anything. This bug is with XnView and Colourspaces.

Perhaps this has to do with your mov and flv difficulties?

As for the colors, if one mode is using overlay renderer or VMR7, and the other VMR9, that often causes differences in output contrast.

XnView can only use "System Default" render and yes on WinXP that is "VMR7 windowed" The same render should be used for both Preview Pane and View mode.

There is no way, XnView can use VMR9 windowed or renderless unless I am mistaken.

XnView use the same engine for all mode...

v.1.82.4 AVI has same brightness on browser and viewer for me.
With, B-3 Viewer video is much brighter.

When viewing an AVI video, both preview and view have the same lightness/darkness. (For direct comparison I have set "View" window to non-maximized and stopped the video in both preview and view on roughly the same frame.).

Maybe it's just be a matter of perception (image looks darker on bright background and brighter on dark background.)?

Still a problem in Beta 5 but I'm not going to worry about it.
Most people should use External players like VLC and MPC anyway.

I compared as Helmut suggested (Preview near View in non-maximized windows) and noticed the difference in luminosity.

Making a capture of the screen showed me that Preview was rendered in Overlay (ie: black in the capture) while the Viewer was rendered in Normal mode. Therefore, depending on the graphic card driver settings, luminosity/contrast/colours may be different between these two modes.
It might be better to be rendered in the same mode, but I'm not sure if this is technically a good choice (ie: Preview=Fullscreen lite is quite special).

It is a big difference for me. Viewer video is also the same brightness as thumbnails. Higher CPU use than old version on my test AVI as well. All that said, it doesn't bother me- I might even find a use for it.
