:) Hi !

• I tested in ß-5, and now it seems that the option “Show 4 thumb nails…” forces the display of thumb nails,
even when the column “Folder –> Thumb nail” is not ticked.

• Just like Pierre said above… So, one could say it's fixed (roughly).

I think forcing is not the right thing, I'd even say it's wrong. Other measurements should be taken, for example:

1.) Move setting to right category
I have the feeling that this setting is in the wrong category. In category "File list" you set the contents of the file list (Items displayed). I think this option should go there on tab 'File list'.

2.) Swap tabs in category "File list"
The category "Items displayed" is a very important bit of XnView. The category is named "File List", so in first place I'd expect to be able to control the items in the file list, here. So it might be a good idea to swap the order of the sections "File list" and "Items displayed".

3.) Rename tabs in category "File list"
Currently the tabs in category "File list" are named (with changed order, see 2.))
- Item displayed
- File list

I think it should become
- File list
- Misc.

Thus people would stumble over the file list and in "Misc." the less important options are gathered. (BTW: "Show hidden folders & thumbnails" should go to folder "File list", so on "Misc." really the less important options are gathered.)

Olivier, what do you think? (I don't want to screw up your very good organisation and naming of the categories and tabs.). Sure enough feedback from other people is also most welcome...

Yes I do. And with those two options active no matter if I have "Show 4 thumbnails in folder's thumbnail" checked or not has no effect if I don't Rebuild thumbnails (refreshing also does nothing). Maybe force Rebuild should also be considered here as cached data prevent the option from taking effect. I don't know!

Don't worry... ...you made quite valid points. Thank you for the comment.

2. I agree with you => move those 'Items displayed' in first position of the panel.
3. I also think its tab name should be identical with the item in the tree (I thought of 'Items displayed', but you're idea to use 'File list' is great).

About 1: I think it is not about the items listed but about what is displayed in the thumbnail -> people probably expect this option in 'Thumbnails'.
This being said, I don't like the "forcing" solution... and your suggestion may make sense, after all. More ideas?

Good suggestion, I support! :D

Good to read, Olivier. Did I ever tell you how good your option revolution is? Searching options is still not easy since there are loads of them, but even I can feel that it's easier, now. :-) That was an excellent effort, Olivier!
