Cache options:
"Read one image ahead" and "Keep current image in cache"
Also, what options do I need to set to make XnView's startup time when viewing an image as fast IrfanView's which is about half-a-second to a second faster?

Install > Use registry to save settings (I guess)
Yes, you can perhaps try to use registry. And perhaps to remove all plugins

I can't reproduce the problem
You open XnView with the browser, no picture view opened. You dbl click on a movie, and you have a crash?
Yes, thats right. I may have some other option enabled somewhere that you don't have set.
Problem is finding it
Ok, I think I have it... Enabled
Cache options:
"Read one image ahead" and "Keep current image in cache" Disabled
File View: Play movie
You open XnView with the browser, no picture view opened. You dbl click on a movie, and crash. Given these options the video clip shouldn't play in View mode however it shouldn't crash either it should show the 1st frame of the video clip.
If you have... Enabled
Cache options:
"Read one image ahead" and "Keep current image in cache"
File View: Play movie

I said, problem is probably in codecs - try uninstall latest divx and xvid and install ffdshow. Also if you've got some of these all in one codecpacks - uninstall them.
