Some suggestions

Post by libtest »

Hello!

First I'd like to thank you for the great program. I've been using XnView 1.82/1.90 at home for quite some time and also had it installed on the network at work. I like it for its great functionality, low overhead and sensible interface. However, I do have some suggestion for improvements, based on my observations on how our users are using it.

1. Remove the version from the title bar. It doesn't belong there and is unnecessary. Also, when in viewer mode, it occupies precious space on the taskbar that would otherwise be used for the file name (screenshot). I checked and not a single app of more than 50 we use on our network shows the version number in the title bar.

2. When adding a XnView icon to desktop/programs menu/start menu - ask whether to add it for all users or current user only.

3. Add an option to hide the tab bar when only one image is open (in this case it's just a waste of space) or even make it a default. Most users, especially non-advanced, never open more than one image at the same time, or do it by double-clicking the second file in explorer, which opens a new XnView window.

4. When GhostScript is not installed and a pdf file is encountered when going through a folder in viewer with PgUp/PgDn - just skip it instead of warning about ghostscript not being installed. It is very unlikely that the user actually intended to read the .pdf file in XnView and such messages cause panic ("It says I have to go to some site and download something. Do I really need to download it? I was just looking at some photos my niece sent me.")

Thanks!
