How to use ratings

Post by jacksonmacd »

New user of XnView, and so far I am quite impressed... except for the Ratings system. How does it work? I can't find any explicit instructions. I found something that alludes to using (e.g.) Ctrl-5, but that method seems to require that the NumPad is used. I am using a notebook computer without a separate NumPad. So that doesn't seem to work.

What's worse is that while exploring through the program features, I clicked on the coloured Rating buttons in the Categories pane. Of course, none of the files have been rated, so none appear in the thumbnail view. But how do I remove the "rating filter" and revert to showing all the files? Can't find any instructions how to do that either.

I ran into the latter problem this morning while playing with XnView. Gave up in frustration. Then while trying it again this evening, it showed all the files. I don't know what caused the files to appear. Then I clicked the button again, and now all the files are hidden.

Seems like a good idea that requires some fine-tuning to remove the rough edges.

You have Ctrl+1/5 and menu View/Rating

Got it. Thanks.
The menu items are grayed out unless one or more thumbnails are selected, and it is not obvious what would cause them to become enabled. Sometimes the easiest things are also easiest to overlook.

Also, drag&drop of files onto a rating is another method, although not as convenient as the keyboard usually.
