Name (Numeric) broken

Post by foxyshadis »

I'm pretty sure it's broken. As far as I remember it worked fine in earlier revs. This is an example of how it mis-sorts on mine:

Numeric sort

(They're all datestamped stuff from 4chan, iichan, and kin, obvs. If you need to get a bunch of such things in a hurry, /auto/ is probably the most worksafe way to pick them up... unless you're offended by ricers. :p)

Sorry for finding this one so late. ^^;

Strange, and it works on 1.82.4??
Is it possible to have some files to reproduce the problem?

No, it appears to be broken in the same way on 1.82 as well, after testing.

Here's a small collection of images to test with: sample zip

If you switch between name and name (numeric) you should see some change order, even though they shouldn't.

Poor Win…

Post by Clo »

:) Hello !

• It seems that it's a misfeature¦lacuna of Window$ when the file-name is made only or mainly with a lot of digits.
- Win is unable to manage such names as a real full logical and natural sorting …

- We had the same issue recently reported to the TC-forum by a user.
- He had too such twisted numeric file-names…
- I tested using the best sorting (needs IE 6.0 or newer) but I couln't get good results…

In 1.90 result of numeric sorting the pictures stored in sample zip is:

1144511106632.jpg
1157733134574.gif
1158287717769.jpg

1155346868510.jpg
1146783295367.jpg

This looks still broken to me, but all those numbers confuse me. foxyshadis, could you please verify whether this has been fixed?

I think one of the RCs had fixed it, as Dreamer said, but I tested and it's definitely broken again. :?::?::?: Quite weird.

And yes, they should be in strict numeric order, all 114s should come before 115s.

A brick---

Post by Clo »

:) Hello !

• Just to add a brick into your wall, below how your samples are sorted in Total Commander by names (normal order) :
1144511106632.jpg
1146661068494.jpg
1146783295367.jpg
1152831571236.jpg
1154829011600.jpg
1154829089414.jpg
1155346868510.jpg
1156069538516.jpg
1157733134574.gif
1158287717769.jpg
• It seems correct - at least as long as there are no more digits and especially mixed letters -…

• BTW, Pierre has the whole info to polish-up this function, I gave it to him a long while ago… Lost ? :?

• Note : even with quite correct codes, the best sorting can't be got with some Win 2K versions and Win 98 SE
when Internet Explorer 6.0 or newer is not installed (it provides the appropriate version of the needed DLL <shlwapi.dll>)
