I am trying to capture a specific area of my desktop. Client area sounded like the correct capture option to select. But it is not giving me the desired outcome. I want to be able to highlight a specifc region on the desktop for capture. I can not seem to get the settings in XnView correct for this type of capture.
Has anyone some tips on how to define an area for capture? Am I not using "Client Area" correctly? I checked the help topics and there were no topics listed for a search of "client"
Thanks
Phil
Capture options: What does "Client area" do?
Moderators: helmut, XnTriq, xnview
'Client area' means the inner area of a window, i.e. the window without titlebar and frame. This is why 'Client area' is only available when captured object is "Window".
As Aokromes pointed out, for capturing any area of your desktop you capture the whole desktop and then do the cropping in XnView.
A note on screen capturing tools:
For taking the screen captures in the XnView online help, I've searched the web for a good capturing tool and have tried quite a number of them, including the major players HyperSnap DX & SnagIt. For my purposes, the small, still powerful tool SmartCapture (http://www.desksoft.com) was perfect and I recommend it. SmartCapture is Shareware.

BTW - If I capture with options "Multiple capture" and "Save - Open in xnview" enabled - if I capture for example 20 images/screens, 20 warning windows appear (with a message "Do you want to save changes to 'Capture-X' ?"), I must close every one, then I can edit images. I don't know if it's a bug but it's annoying.
Just an area …

¤ Just to do this, you could use the "Capture" fonction of the small freware Slider, with which it's possible to capture only the area you want for; it's a selection like the XnView one by the left mouse-button; when you release the button, the selection is automatically copied in the Clipboard. The content of the Clipboard can be viewed too in a small window…I am trying to capture a specific area of my desktop. …
