Actually 2 problems:
1.
When editing an image comment (Through "Edit - Edit comment..." in view mode) there seems to be some restriction on the size of the comment. Pasting a 1 kb of text or 10 lines of text into the edit box will make it empty after a short blink where the text sometimes appears to be displayed for a moment.
2.
When editing a comment in a PNG file where the text chunk is located after the data chunks, then the old comment will not be shown and you are only able to write a brand new comment but not edit the old one.
This might be more of a problem with the GFL than Xnview.

Yes, it's a problem with LIBPNG2.
When editing a comment in a PNG file where the text chunk is located after the data chunks, then the old comment will not be shown and you are only able to write a brand new comment but not edit the old one.
This might be more of a problem with the GFL than Xnview.

Funny what you say about LIBPNG. And I thought it was a reference library for PNG! If this really bothers me I guess I'll have to look at LIBPNG and submit a patch for it
