View image in AI. (Adobe Illustrator) format

Post by red »

I have recently installed XN viewer to be able to view ai. images without having to open Illustrator. From the documentation, it appears to do this. Could someone please explain the steps to setup for this function. Thanks

:) Hello !

• Prior, you need GhostScript installed in the same drive than Windows (where the current active registry is located).

• Second, go to Options (F12) :
1. General >> The box Use all available formats must be ticked.
2. Browser >> Files list >> Tick the box¦es you need for AI, PS, PDF files.

• I can't swear that all AI versions work, though…

 Kind regards,
Claude

AI. viewing

Thanks for reply.
I had already installed the 25.72 Mb Ghost script (and the 4.81Mb Ghostscript Fonts as well) and I have checked the AI association as well.(should have mentioned all that in the first post).
I wanted a viewer that would allow viewing of thumbnails and full size images without the need to open each image separately in Illustrator. You may be right about these particular AI files, but I cannot get the XNView Viewer to show any old AI or EPS format thumbnails or images. It will show wmf. thumbnails and open wmf. vector images. Not sure if there is something else to be enabled in the XNViewer. This program is a very fast viewer of the rest of my images and I am glad it opens Raw files. Thanks

Ai. viewing

I can now display both the thumbnail and full image in Ai. format.
I found out that if I open and resave the images in Illustrator, XNView will then display both thumbnails and also open the ai. image from the resaved files. I'm not sure why the older ai. files do not display or open these files as they are not that old. Thanks for the help.
