Filter or not Filter :-)

Post by xnview »

In view mode, currently we have a Filter menu, some persons don't like it  , it's true that now the term is not good.
So Misc. perhaps?

Yea, it wouldn't hurt to merge it with the Image menu but keep "Filter" as the name of the sub-menu.

Hm....................

:) Hello !

• Personally, I've nothing against the current name “Filters",
I dislike the location of the «(x)Paint» retouch-thingy in that menu only…

• I would prefer to keep it as is (not merged into another menu).
However, it could be named i.e. “Effects & Misc.” (Effets & Divers) like it's in some other graphic softs (i.e. IcoFx).

¤ Just my 0.10 € (inflation is running…) :D

Renaming it would be a bad idea, after all everything in it IS a filter (except paint). It could work to stick it under the images menu, but if you do so you should put the individual items there (effects, user filters, adobe filters, etc), otherwise it'd be too many layers of submenus.

Its ok as it is, I agree that "paint" might be moved to i.e. "Image"- or "Tools"-menu.

I'd also suggest that the different effects were viewable directly as a list in the menu (as in most image editing software), but thats perhaps another topic.

Separate pop-ups…

Post by Clo »

—> Drahken

:) Hello !

• Like I said above, the name itself is not a big deal…
- And yes, this is not the menu in which any lambda user + Aunty Agatha will look for the x-¦Paint thingy at first glance.
- Instinctively, I open the Tools menu many times still {and yell, of course ! :twisted: }

• I think still to the future menu-files as text, and being in the habit to work with such files,
I can say that it's better to have more separate titled pop-ups than a lot of sub-menus…
…otherwise it'd be too many layers of submenus.
- It's exactly that I mean.

:) Hello !

• Found it ? :D
…\XnView_folder\AddOn\Paint.xnp
…\XnView_folder\AddOn\Paint.lng
…\XnView_settings_folder\XPaint.ini
• I “spring” on that opportunity to claim that since the INI is so-named XPaint.ini,
the tool itself might be named the same…
