Currently we have 3 text fields in search dialog (description, iptc, exif)
What do you if i use only ONE text field, so the search of a term in comment, EXIF, IPTC, ... will be possible.
Your thoughts, please?

Add checkbox "All fields" next to "Description" checkbox that deactivates IPTC/EXIF input fields and makes search in all fields.xnview wrote:But how to search a string in all fields???nightflyer wrote:I think they can be left as is, because you lose independet searching for these fields. And I think it is rare to search for the same string in description/IPTC/EXIF.

I agree with one text field, it's a bit confusing now and it might be even more in the future (since XnView is a multimedia viewer, perhaps * ID3 tag might be added). My suggestion:
[x] Description [x] EXIF [ ] IPTC [ ] ID3 tag* [ ] File**
[ . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . ]
(o) Search all terms (AND) / ( ) Search any term (OR)
** This is just an idea, to search the whole file, as in the file managers, not just for text files.
It would be enough so IMHO. More terms could be used (ABC for IPTC and DEF for EXIF), then with the "AND/OR" option user can choose if both terms must be find, or just one. Of course the other options should be preserved.
Perhaps it should be below "Look in", then format, file size, date.
Edit: Just fixed "*" to "**".

I like Dreamer's example because of its simplicity.
Nightflyer makes an interesting point about losing specific searches. A single drop-down menu limiting search to specific areas might help resolve that. It could include both Iptc, Exif items (image width, etc.), and prefixes where needed.
[x]Limit search to: [<Drop-down list here>]
