Slow operations - something wrong?
XnView 1.74, XP SP1, AMD XP 2000+, 512RAM
XnView seems to be significantly slower than ACDSee Classic, especially starting and zoom.
When I double click ona a jpeg (or other gfx file) associated with XnView, I see some interface redrawing (menu, toolbar) before picture actually shows, up. That makes XnView click-to-display time veeeery long. Also, zooming with grey +/- is very slow.
I renamed plugins directory, but the problem remains
Is it supposed to be so, or I need to set some options/something's wrong with my system?

What is eating the speed ?

- Something is certainly wrong somewhere in your system…
- In example, with an "oldie" PII @ 350 MHz, I can load and view a JPG - 1280*960 - 24 BPP - 371 KB in ONE second, without any flicker or so in the file manager from which I make the handling…
- There is 320 MB of SD-Ram installed, and always 200 MB free at least.
- Maybe some AV-scanner, or useless "Services" are “eating” a too big amount of free Ram ?
- I can't compare under XP-Pro, because I've a 2-CPU AMD MP 2000+, and 1 GB DD-Ram, that is not too much ! There, XnView is much faster, of course…

Yes, often switching to the registry for saving the options helps. See also related topics:Dreamer wrote:Try change this: "Options > Install > Use registry to save options" (or defragment your hard drive)
And what is "veeeery long" ??(in seconds)
- Slow starting and quitting (1.70.2 and above)
- 100% CPU usage when exiting
No success, also after renaming the folders. Defrag helped but no more than .5 sec. Strange, as I've said, before picture opens (full screen mode, after clicking in Explorer window) almost all frames of panels are completely drawn, along with toolbar+icons and title bar. Then some of the frames seem to move to different positions, picture appears but the task bar is still visible and at the end also this part of the screen is drawn.
I will check on another computer tomorrow.

Which size (in pixels) of your picture? How many files in this folder?
Pierre.
Long... Maybe

I tested the Xyzzy's file P1090761.MOV (sound only?), I get a delay of :
- 3 seconds with the oldie PII / Win 98 SE (see above)
- 1 second with the 2-CPU / Xp-Pro (see above too)
- The same XnView 1.74

Re: Long... Maybe
But the problem is not the .MOV file. The MOV shows the problem...Clo wrote:I tested the Xyzzy's file P1090761.MOV (sound only?), I get a delay of :

"DeLuxe 2" tells "Not suported" ?

My copy of "\My Data\DeviantART\Fragment_of_Space.jpg" which is 1800x3000 100dpi JPG takes about 3sec to load from Browser to View mode with High Quality Zoom settings enabled.

There were ~500 pics in the directory, shown pic was ~1500x2000.
Disabled "High zoom quality" and Cache and tested a little, there is significant speedup! Disabling cache seems to have much less impact on load time than disabling "High quality options". Hovewer, I can still see main window redraw before picture is show. Full frame of main windows is drawn along with toolbar (including icons), no panels' frames are drawn now. Progess bar in status bar shows loading before picture is shown.
I will test a bit more tomorrow and report.
