bit-depth misreported

XnView 1.91.2 on Win XP SP2

I think there has been some improvement between 1.91.1 and 1.91.2 with 16-bits per colour images, but there are still some issues.

I checked the same 16-bit file in 3 formats, produced by Photoshop CS: TIFF, PSD, PNG

• in the properties tab of the file browser all formats report (correctly) as 48 bits .
• the mouseover tip reports tif as 48bit, but png and psd as 24-bit - in all view-as modes
• in thumbnails and labels the "labels" have the same details as mouseover.
• in thumbnails and details , or details-only display, the "details" are always reported as 16M colours.

While on the topic of bit-depth, I think it is fine that you only read in 8-bit mode, but for me it was very difficult to find that information.

Please consider:

• In the web page and help file on supported formats it would be good to say that only 8-bit is fully supported, and that 16-bit is read-only
• When attempting to save an image that was read in from a 16-bit file, a warning about loss of information would be very good

Hmm, they are 50MB each. I'll see if I can recreate smaller examples

Now we are getting somewhere - it mainly seems to be some sort of caching issue.

I could not create any new file that exhibited the problem, or use the same procedure with Photoshop, or even just copy/paste the entire file. The old file said 24-bit and the new file said 48-bit!

I uninstalled and reinstalled XnView - no difference.

I refreshed, to no avail, but finally tried "rebuild thumbnails" and now the mouseover tips and the labels all show correct values.

This still leave a couple of areas that are always wrong...
The Properties tab on the bottom of the browser window is correct, but the properties from the menu (or alt-enter) still always show 24-bit.
In addition, the details table always shows the images as 16M. I suppose if you called it 281T not many people would understand.
