I think there has been some improvement between 1.91.1 and 1.91.2 with 16-bits per colour images, but there are still some issues.
I checked the same 16-bit file in 3 formats, produced by Photoshop CS: TIFF, PSD, PNG
- in the properties tab of the file browser all formats report (correctly) as 48 bits .
- the mouseover tip reports tif as 48bit, but png and psd as 24-bit - in all view-as modes
- in thumbnails and labels the "labels" have the same details as mouseover.
- in thumbnails and details , or details-only display, the "details" are always reported as 16M colours.
While on the topic of bit-depth, I think it is fine that you only read in 8-bit mode, but for me it was very difficult to find that information.
Please consider:
- In the web page and help file on supported formats it would be good to say that only 8-bit is fully supported, and that 16-bit is read-only
- When attempting to save an image that was read in from a 16-bit file, a warning about loss of information would be very good
