Topic name and content has been changed, it's more complex now, for all lossless tranformations. - Dreamer
JPEG Lossless transformations and Metadata (EXIF/IPTC...) are missing in the Batch Convert.
It would be very useful, since currently it's possible to make the lossless transformations only in a single folder.
JPEG lossless transformations and Metadata are BATCH transformations, so they should be in the Batch Convert IMO.
I suggest a new category "Lossless operations" in the Batch Convert > Transformations tab with all the functions of the JPEG l. t. toolbar button and the Metadata (from menu > Edit > Metadata), perhaps also Edit Description/Comment.
Thanks.

Here is the workaround for the sub-folders:
- Enter the main folder
- Press Ctrl+F
- Enable "[x] Include subfolders"
- If you have also other formats then JPG in the subfolders, enable also "[x] Format > JPG"
- Press the Search button
- Wait...
- Press the Browse button
- Select all files (Ctrl+A)
- Now apply the JPEG lossless transformations you want
This should work also for Metadata.

Re: Batch convert - lossless rotate still missing
Not sure that it will be good to add lossless function in batch convert, because works on file not on image...Dreamer wrote:Also lossless crop and flip I think.
Most users don't know about lossless transformations and use just normal rotate, crop, flip...

There should be one rotate, flip etc. option for user, working like this in any situation (convert, view mode etc):
If file is in lossy format that supports lossless transforms
and
only operations that can be performed lossless have been done
then
perform operations lossless and save lossless.

Re: Batch convert - lossless rotate still missing
There are few possibilities then:xnview wrote:Not sure that it will be good to add lossless function in batch convert, because works on file not on image...Dreamer wrote:Also lossless crop and flip I think.

- grey out output file format if loosless any action is chosen
- add two modes - lossy and lossless, and disable output file format options for loosless
- make new dialog - Lossless Batch convert, but I don't think this is the best solution
Currently there is only one possibility to make it batch and lossless - select files in browser and use a toolbar button, it's not a good way, many users don't know about it and it's not possible to do it for several folders at once.

I have changed the first post completely, now it's a suggestion for all the batch lossless transformations.
I have added also the workaround for the sub-folders I found to the first post. There is no workaround for more different folders.

Pierre, I have partly replied in the first post now, but I think those transformations should be in the batch convert, since the ARE batch transformations too and users are missing this possibility, some even don't know that it's possible to use the tollbar JPEG button for batch transformations, it's confusing and not intuitive, in the batch convert it would be clearer and intuitive. Also when there is at least one non JPEG file in the folder, JPEG button is greyed out, it's not good, since sometimes it's hard to find it. In the batch convert it might work so, that if any JPEG lossless transformation will be selected, it will be applied for the JPEG files only, other files will be skipped automatically (if posssible). Not sure that it will be good to add lossless function in batch convert, because works on file not on image...

Is it just the semantics of the menu option that causes this issue? Not sure that it will be good to add lossless function in batch convert, because works on file not on image...
Consider: "Batch Convert" vs. "Batch Processing"
"Convert" is a term only loosely applicable to many of the activities ("transformations") available in the batch dialog.
If the menu option was called "Batch Processing", then lossless transformations, metadata handling, even file handling could be subordinated to the dialog...
But what to do about "sequence convert" ... ???
Even if XnView stays with "Convert", though, in English the term might better be "Conversion", instead.
