XnView won't read pdf files

Post by Russ »

I have read many messages regarding problems with XnView not reading pdf files correctly. The recommended fix is to install various versions of Ghostscript. I have the same problem and have tried both GPL and AGPL versions of Ghostscript. I have discovered that the problems has nothing to do with either of these. The problem is the file name format. XnView fails to read many (not all - and not always the same) pdf files if there is more than 1 word in the file name. Example, given the name "This is a test.pdf" may fail to read, but change the name to "Thisisatest.pdf" and it reads every time and you will not get the "Format of file <???> could not be determined" error. I have verified this with over a dozen files, each which consistently failed to read. When changing the name to remove the spaces, the file read perfectly everytime, and displays thumbnails without incident.

Thanks for this great program!

I can't reproduce on 1.91.4 here, files with and without spaces in the name all open correctly.
