XnView 1.91.6 after crash lost all categories

Post by PSHRutPark »

After a family-member-induced registry crash of my Windows 2000 PC I restored the computer from an earlier total disk backup (after copying a number of folders to other drive) and then copied the XnView install folder and relevant Application Data folder that existed immediately before the crash onto the older folders. I then, as a check, re-installed XnView.

The categories have all been wiped.

I would like to know where they were stored and how I may get them back! The ini file in the XnView folder was the store of set-up.

Thanks

:) Hello !

• Please, look for a file so-named <category.db>.

- It might be located in the programme folder, but also in :
X:\Documents and Settings\My_User_Name\Application Data\XnView\
where “X” is the drive letter of the boot disc (containing the active Windows or WinNT directory).

Thank you. I will check it out later this evening.

Update:

Tried restoring the category data base from application data folder but it made no difference. Found category data base in backup of programme folder and copied it to "new" programme folder (making sure the initial one was overwritten this time) ... and it restored the categories. Much to my relief.

I now have the XnView programme folder backing up automatically each day!
