yesterday I posted the following message, it has been read just now 49 times but there was no response. As I am working with Olympus E-510 Raw-format it would be very helpful to have a possibility to use then thumb option in Windows explorer. Here the message again:
Hello,
I am unable to install XNShellex.exe on my desktop. There is always the error message:
Unable to register the DLL/OCX: DllRegisterServer failed; code 0x80070005
Same message when i try to install the ZIP version.
This appears also when explorer and all other programs have been closed.
Installation on my Notebook works fine! (Both computers run WIN XP Prof).
Please help!
Reinhard.
Cannot install XnShell

Why there ?

Hello !
• There is no need to place that executable on the Desktop, just install it into a normal folder (any),
then the shell extension for XnView'll be available.
- Using the Desktop to store all and anything leads to annoyances, IMHO.
BTW : Are you using 32 or 64-bit Win XP-Pro ?

Thank you Claude for your answer, I agree with you that it is not a good idea to try an installation of the XNShell extension on the desktop!
I never would express this, it is my poor English that guided to that misunderstanding....
I use two computers: a notebook and a desktop computer. Both have WIN XP Prof 32 bit for OS. On the notebook the XNShell extension is installed at C:\Programme\XnView and it works fine. On the desktop computer I tried to install at C:\Programme\XnView and at C:\Programme\XnView\Shell, as it has been proposed by the setup routine.
The error message on the desktop computer means - for me - there exists a blocking entry in the registry, perhaps left from a further version of XnView (I updated several times!). So I deinstalled XnView and installed again, no change.
I searched for something like that in the registry but I was not successful, on the desktop computer I didn't find entries for XnShell but naturally lots for XnView.
I would like to ask the community if this sort of error message appeared otherwise and what I can do for remedy.
thanks, Reinhard.

Problem resolved
Hello,
I had been logged on all the time as admin!
A friend of mine recommended me to create a new admin, log off and log on as this admin and to install VNView with the Shell option. This worked fine, afterwards I erased the new admin with all the stuff around.
Thanks for your help too!
Reinhard.
