how combine IPTC to many Pictures
Hello,
I'll combine IPTC-Data to 2 or more pictures.
sample:
I have 2 pictures with included IPTC-Keywords:
Pic1 -> Keyword "Berlin"
Pic2 -> Keyword "Dresden"
Now I will add a new keyword "Holiday" to the pictures.
I mark the 2 pics and press CTRL+I and add the new keyword.
The result is:
Pic1 -> Keywords "Berlin", "Holiday" -> OK
Pic2 -> Keywords "Dresden", "Berlin", "Holiday" -> WRONG (should be "Dresden", "Holiday")
I use XnView 1.80.1.
best regards
gilbert

Re: how combine IPTC to many Pictures
The only software that can do this is Picasa (www.picasa.com), as far as I know. I use it alongside xnview mostly for keywording.
In Picasa press Ctrl-K to get to the keyword dialog.

You can with 1.80.gilbert wrote:Hello,

Select your pictures, Edit IPTC dialog box, Set "Merge with existing values..." option, click on Clear, Add your new keyword, and Write all selected.

Re: how combine IPTC to many Pictures
Pierre, never would have thought that would be the right way to do it, but it works indeed!xnview wrote: You can with 1.80.

Now the next problem: I made a mistake, and I want to remove the common keyword "Holiday" again from all selected images. Can I do this in XnView, too? I tried but found no way.
In Picasa (yeah, sorry for mentioning it again, but even though I love XnView there are some things that are working great in P.) in the keyword-list I see all keywords that appear in my selected images, and the keywords that are not in all images are grey. I can apply and delete just as I want.
So I wish it would be like this in XnView:
- A special shortcut to go to the keywords directly (as I think they become more and more important in the digital image world, so this would make sense)
- There all selected image's keywords are shown with checkboxes beside just like in windows file property dialogs: when a property is common to all files the check is black, if some files have the property the check is grey
- removing a checkbox means delete keyword from all files
- making a grey check black (by clicking on it) means apply keyword to all
Don't get me wrong: I think the step from 1.74 to 1.8 was great work done, really! Just want to be criticizing constructively

The Clear-Button was the correct reference.xnview wrote:You can with 1.80.

Thanks!!

Re: how combine IPTC to many Pictures
I don't know about older versions, but 1.80 is great. I want to use it for viewing pictures and their exif and iptc data. every effort (eg the wishes above (shortcuts, ...)) are very appreciated!negg wrote:So I wish it would be like this in XnView:

Please Pierre, don't you think there is still a little bit of time to make inserting IPTC-Keywords less painful? I'd be most grateful!

Does this apply to 1.90 alpha 2? I can not find any "Merge with existing values" option.xnview wrote: You can with 1.80.

Which bug?negg wrote:in the 1.90 Alpha Version the IPTC windows looks nearly the same. Even the bug that the tab sequence of the fields is totally chaotic is still there.
Pierre.
Re: how combine IPTC to many Pictures
Well, the thing that is kind of a "bug" is that when you are in the IPTC Dialog and try to use the TAB key to jump through the fields, the sequence is not as one would expect. At least to me it seem rather random. Example:xnview wrote:Which bug?negg wrote:in the 1.90 Alpha Version the IPTC windows looks nearly the same. - On the IPTC Dialog choose "Keywords", the focus is on the interface tab
- Press TAB: the focus jumps to the bottom of the dialog in the field "Add new values..."
- Press TAB 3 times: the focus jumps to the "Load" and "Save" buttons
- Press TAB 3 more times: the focus jumps to the "Write" Button
- Press TAB 3 more times: Yahoo! I am finally where I want to be: entering keywords!
That means I have to press TAB 10 times to get to the first field in the interface...or SHIFT-TAB 4 times to cycle backwards. I can't believe this was done intentionally thats why I called it a bug...

Hotkeys…
—> negg
Good evening,
• That should work much simpler and faster with hotkeys for the items…
- They are missing (at least till today in the embedded English).
- I've set all in French because we have a DLL (experimental and patched)
• A long while ago, Pierre said he has to add such hotkeys… but he didn't yet…
- I've a German and an English DLL like this - with hotkeys - , but only for 1.82.4…
- You coud see also THIS THREAD

Thanks, Clo, I'd be very happy with those 1.82.4 patched dlls. I'm currently using an english 1.82.4 version.Clo wrote: - I've a German and an English DLL like this - with hotkeys - , but only for 1.82.4…![]()
It would be very kind if you could send them to [my nickname] @gmx.net

Still only small improvement on this issue in 1.90.6
Sorry if I seem a little bullheaded about this subject, but until Adobe lowers its prices for Photoshop XnView is still my choice for editing IPTC Tags...
So its been quite some versions since this thread was started and we saw the "W" hotkey for the write button in 1.90.6 finally, but unfortunately still no improvement on the other problems in the IPTC-Dialog:
- the tab sequence is still chaotic (http://newsgroup.xnview.com/viewtopic.php?p=35093#35093) and forces me to use the mouse a lot when typing would be much easier.
- unselecting keywords (http://newsgroup.xnview.com/viewtopic.php?p=13630#13630) to remove them would help a lot
- a "write and close" button would save one keystroke every time
- the preset list in keywords and categories should add the item on doubleclick (hitting the up arrow button besides the list is uncomfortable)
So I still hope there will be more improvement some day...
