Options: File associations not saved

Post by ghost zero »

1.92

Changes to file associations in options don't save after clicking OK. I uncheck .max files in options but it remains checked after clicking OK. Any way to fix this?

ghostzero, I've just downloaded the format plugin "Compound" for 3ds support. After installing the plug-in I still couldn't find the .max file extension in the options(?) at all. Which options do you mean? Which plug-in is needed? Which steps do you exactly perform to produce the problem?

(As you know Pierre can only fix problems that he can reproduce, and I guess that until now he doesn't "see" the problem. So more details are needed.)

Thanks for explaining in more detail, ghost zero. I haven't 3ds max installed so that's probably the reason why ".max" doesn't show up in the options.

It's strange that just this one setting ".max" is reset every time. Where are your XnView options saved (.ini or Windows registry)? Could you search your registry for "max" and see whether there is an old entry created by XnView? (Just guessing here).

i have the settings saved in the ini. here's the .max file association in windows xp -- it's set to open in the actual program and not xnview.

O.k. Are there other Windows registry entries with "max"? (Perhaps the XnView settings have been saved once in the registry (while doing tests) and XnView reads those old values (really just guessing).

@Pierre:
Any other ideas what ghost zero could try?

Hmm, not quite what I was looking for. I would have expected a key written by XnView, e.g. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\XnView\.... Obviously an old setting is not the reason for your problem.
