Image selection checkbox issue
Hi, I find the upper-left checkbox really useful for making complex selections without using the keyboard (Ctrl, Shift, ...).
But if the required selection takes images from different folders, the ones you have just selected become unselected as soon as you go into another folder to add more images to the selection.
Instead, it would be very useful if you could create a selection across different folders (I'd need it for posting images on hosting sites, to resize them before sending, and usually they're not all in the same folder).
Using last version (1.92)
Thank you Pierre
EDIT: I just realize I've posted in Bug reports, while Suggestions would probably have been better.

Re: Image selection checkbox issue
This feature is still not present in 1.93.2, should I worry?xnview wrote:Yes, already requestedandrea.ippo wrote:Hi, I find the upper-left checkbox really useful for making complex selections without using the keyboard (Ctrl, Shift, ...).

I just wanted to know if you have forgotten it or you simply haven't had the time to do this also, which I would comprehend of course, since you're constantly working on xnview.
So take this post as un "UP"
Thank you
Re: Image selection checkbox issue
You have it now in 1.93 to keep tag. Menu "Tools > Options", category "Browser > Thumbnails", tab "Icon info", setting "Tagged files must be cleared". Here you can choose "Never", thus the tagging will never be changed by XnView.andrea.ippo wrote:... Thank you, it works now, but can you please tell me how to make a selection accross different folders that I can use for a multiple conversion or presentation?
I only succeed in creating a presentation from files selected by mouse-clicking on the thumbnail (which becomes highlighted), and not from the ones I flag in the checkbox.
Am I doing something wrong?
Thanks a lot Pierre

Which settings do you have? Which version?andrea.ippo wrote:Thank you, it works now, but can you please tell me how to make a selection accross different folders that I can use for a multiple conversion or presentation?

Some extended help:
Preparations
For using the tagging, do the following preparations once:
1. Change setting "Tagged files must be cleared" to "Never" (or one of the other values) in menu "Tools > Options", category "Browser > Thumbnails", tab "Icon info".
2. Close options with "OK"
3. in Browser, select menu "View > Tag > Show tag box"
Using tagging
1. Tag images in the browser using "Space" key, Ctrl+T, or menu "View > Tag > Tag current".
2. For viewing all your tagged files, select menu "View > Tag > Show all tagged files".

Thank you very much Helmut, I managed to restore the checkboxes and to not lose selection when moving to other folders or doing some other action.
What I still can't do, is use the checkboxed images to make a conversion.
I do the following:
checkbox pict1, checkbox pict2-> Ctrl+U (Conversion) result: no pictures in the list of pictures to convert.
If instead I select more pictures with the mouse (Ctrl+click or Shift+click) and then Ctrl+U, the selected files are already listed (which is fine, but of no use if I have to convert pictures in a folder and in its subfolder, since going to the subfolder to make the selection automatically deletes selection of pictures in the containing folder)
Last method:
select more pictures with the mouse, then press spacebar and then Ctrl+U: a prompt window appears, asking to what files I want to apply the conversion, if to selected ones or to tagged ones. This works, but again only for files in the same folder.
And if I tag all the pictures I need to convert, then go to View->...-> Show all tagged files and then press Ctrl+U, the list is empty.
What I'd really appreciate is to make method one work (checkboxes create selection, not mouse-highlighted picture files, this is the only way I can create a selection across different folders)
If this method should work, please tell me if I'm doing something wrong.
Thank you for helping

Yes a bug if you have only selected 1 filehelmut wrote:Currently this does not work (v1.93.4), but I also think that this method supposed to work so I'd call this a bug.andrea.ippo wrote:... I do the following:

Some differences to note:andrea.ippo wrote:To me it happens also when I select more than one file by checking the box.
Tags operate in seperate ways depending on this option:
Tagged file list must be cleared [_____]
If it set to "never", then you will need to use tags only from tag category view for it to work. Mulitple tags across multiple folders seem to need that as a starting point. It has been suggested to eliminate this requirement.
If it set to "After folder change", then it does act differently as in old versions.
Further differences:
In tag category, details view can be used.
Outside of tag category, thumbnails view must be used.
